IFK Umeå's Marcus Grate made his Olympic debut when Sweden competed in cross-country skiing in Milano Cortina. The 29-year-old skier represented Västerbotten and Umeå on the biggest stage of all.
Grate finished in 24th place in the Olympic classical sprint, an honorable placement in his first Olympic Games. For Umeå and northern Sweden, it is a source of pride to have a skier on Sweden's A-team.
Marcus Grate, born December 27, 1996, has had strong development in recent years. After taking his first World Cup podium finish in the 2024/2025 season, he was rewarded with a spot on the Swedish A-team for the 2025/2026 season.
– Marcus is fast in classical sprint and can deliver surprises, the ski federation has previously said about the Umeå profile.
In addition to the Olympic Games, Grate is also competing in the World Championships taking place March 18-21 in Engadin, Switzerland. This means he will return to Sweden with full experience ahead of Swedish Championship Week, which will be held in Umeå March 25-29.
Championship Week has cross-country skiing as the main sport and will be held at Stadsliden. There Marcus Grate will have the chance to compete on home turf – a dream situation for both the skier himself and local supporters.
IFK Umeå's skiing section has a long tradition of developing talents, and with Marcus Grate at the Olympics, the club shows it can still compete at the highest level.
